Full Synopsis: A group of five exceptional bank robbers have been able to successfully rob several banks with such perfect execution that the police do not have a single clue to capture them. These criminals treat each robbery as a business plan that works. First, they plan each job with clockwork precision and are extremely careful in not leaving any evidence behind. Second, they all lay low between jobs as not to bring attention to themselves. They decide to pull off one last heist that will be their biggest score by taking out an armored-car. Personally, whenever I see Pixar in the credits, I know it’s gonna be a good movie. They’ve created some amazing animation so far and their work is always beautiful and entertaining. You can imagine I had high expectations again.
We like to discuss about saving Planet Earth and curbing pollution. Well in this story, we’ve already lost the battle. Planet Earth is just a huge pile of junk, while the few humans who survived are floating on a space ship, waiting to find some place to destroy inhabit. 700 years in the future, the only living forms are solar-power robots and some crickets. WALL-E spends his time scooping up trash, shoveling it into his belly, compressing it into a square and making skyscrapers of these “cubes”.
When his working day is done, the robot comes home, where he stores the latest treasures he found that day. Then he puts himself in the “sleeping” position and gets into “power saving mode”.
All this routine is ruined, when some white round robot comes in the area to look for probes. Once the treasure is found (a perfect green plant, that would help re-populating Earth one day), the white thing goes back to the mother ship (Axiom), where people have indulged in a sedentary lifestyle, thus transforming in fat out of shape creatures. And they are the future, oh yeah.
Far from me to spoil it for you, so I’ll stop my story here. Will just mention the great 3D work Pixar have gotten us accustomed with, excellent story-line and cute to die for characters. The movie is absolutely adorable, such as the robot who finds himself in love. If you haven’t seen it, you can surely schedule 1 hour and a half. The movie is more than suitable for kids as for adults, so you can share the movie night with your little ones too.
Milos is a former porn star who is down on his luck financially. When he receives a call from his long-time movie actress partner, Layla, he welcomes her call. Our Robin here is not the legend, or not just yet. The entire story is set before he became the legendary outcast, living in Sherwood with his brave friends. He just came back from the Third Crusade, trying to enter England by pretending to be one of Richard Lionheart‘s knights. On his real name Robin Longstride, he’s trying to fulfill the dying wish of Robert of Locksley, the one who had to take Richard’s crown and the news of the brave king’s death back to England. He’s being murdered by Godfrey, King John’s “right arm” and found while still breathing by Robin and his men.
So Robin takes on his identity and then travels to Nottingham to give Robert’s father the sword used by him in the Crusades. Walter, the knight’s father, encourages him to keep on impersonating his late son, so that they can prevent their lands from being confiscated by the crown. Maid Marion (Cate Blanchett) is not a maid in the first place, but already a wife, and there’s nothing ‘maiden’ about her, especially when she’s threatening to cut his “pride” with the dagger, if he chooses to act “manly” near her.
In the mean time, Godfrey, already an Earl Marshal of England, is plotting an invasion. He’d be the one to weaken the English army, by forcing people to pay even more taxes and burning down the villages where people refuse to give all they can, while the king of France would bring his army into the country and then deliver the last blow to a disgruntled weak army.
The French army lands in a similar scene to Normandy, in World War II, while Robin and his army are prepared to “welcome” them. King John gives a lot of promises, so that the army would follow him and support in the battles and the men proceed to kill everyone they meet on that beach. Russell Crowe is again the “gladiator” fighting and destroying anyone in his way, while Marion joins the battle as a brave soldier prepared to fight for her country.
The battle scenes look amazing and the entire movie is made for the “wow factor”, Ridley Scott proving once again he knows his directing. The character, even if pretty far from the legendary Robin Hood we know, is still enjoyable and the entire movie a pleasing cinema experience.
Judy Benjamin (Goldie Hawn), is a spoiled woman, who’s getting ready to marry for the second time. All is well, but the big problem comes during the wedding night. Aside of not being a particularly good lover, her husband has a heart attack and dies, leaving Judy both unsatisfied and a widow.
He is so shaken by this, that she leaves it all behind to enroll in the army.
Let’s say that I can’t consider this movie to be as hilarious as others presented it in the reviews, but there were some scenes that made me roll on the floor in laughter. Imagine a 28 wealthy woman getting to Fort Biloxi and asking if the uniforms do come in something else than green and where do they keep the yachts. After realizing the army is not a 5 star hotel, she suddenly decides she doesn’t like and wants to quit.
We’re taking through her military career start and all those funny things happening to her. Well, funny to us, I assume a person who’s dealing with such a wake up new life style doesn’t really enjoy the change.
Armand Assante is doing his “sexy, sexy, sexy” role as her new lover, the one who “teaches” her that making love can be pretty pleasing. He’s a rich gynecologist she falls in love with.
Overall the movie under-delivers, if you expect many funny situations and I believe they go too fast over her military beginnings, the moment that could have provided more and more funny scenes. Still the movie is enjoyable and you will find yourself laughing uncontrollably.
